The Christmas Spider is a legend present in many countries, particularly Europe. The premise, which is also known as “The Legend of the Christmas Spider” tells of a poor family, who happened to lack the means to decorate their Christmas tree. One night, a spider looking to find a cozy place to rest happened to wander into the family’s home. There it found the tall pine in the corner. Intrigued it climbed to the top of the tree and spun a beautiful web of silvery, shimmering thread amongst the branches of the tree.
The Christmas Spider
The family awoke to find the tree illuminated with a glimmering web. They were amazed by the beauty of the spider’s work and credited it with the gifts of love and joy that hung from the tree. From that day on, with each Christmas, the family would put silver tinsel on their tree to remember the spider and its beautiful web.
