Free Printable Rainbow Bridge Poem

A few days ago, I stumbled upon something I never expected to see—a piece of literature about something I could never have imagined. It’s called the Rainbow Bridge Poem, and it’s about the bridge between the world of the living and the world of the dead for our furry friends. As someone with a passion for animals, this poem took me on a wild emotional journey, so I had to share it with you.

The poem starts off with a vision of a bridge.

“Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.” picture of pet at rainbow bridge

The poem’s setting is incredibly peaceful and loving, perfect for those going through the difficult loss of a furry friend.

“There is plenty of food and water, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.” picture of rainbow bridge poem for cats

Rainbow Bridge features a few furry friends from this world, including those from our own special homes.

“The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.” picture of rainbow bridge poem for cats

Although I have never known the loss of a beloved pet, I was moved by the intensity of the emotion portrayed in this poem.

“You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….” picture of rainbow bridge poem

The last few stanzas of the poem are the most beautiful. It’s clear that this bridge is something to be anticipated and celebrated, something that many of us have held close in one way or another.

“Just time for one last embrace and then you board the ship together, for the greatest adventure of them all has begun. You have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge and together you’ll stay, finally reunited with all the love and joy there can be.” picture of rainbow
