Guns have come a long way from early models with single-shot capability to today’s enhanced versions that are intimidating to behold—let alone play with! For those of us who don’t have access to the real thing, 3D printed guns offer an interesting alternative. While they may not be a perfect substitute for the real thing, reports have suggested that 3D printed guns are advancing quickly in their level of sophistication and viability.
Engineer Creates Special Bullets For 3D Printed Guns, Including Semi
A Colorado-based engineer, Jordon Labbé, has taken the 3D printing guns game to the next level. He has designed a 3D printed gun that can fire “metal, plastic and biodegradable” bullets. He calls his invention “3D-ammo”, and believes it will revolutionize the gun industry.
The World Just Got a New, Entirely 3D-Printed Metal Gun
Just when you thought 3D printing technology couldn’t get any more advanced, two inventors in Australia surprised the world when they unveiled an entirely 3D-printed metal gun. The gun may not be operable yet, but it has been described as “sturdier, more reliable and surprisingly resourceful” than any other 3D-printed gun.
The world’s first 3D printed metal gun is a beautiful .45 caliber M1911
In 2013, the world’s first 3D printed metal gun was an impressive .45 caliber M1911, but it was not the only 3D printed gun on the market. Since then, 3D printed guns have become more common, although many countries still outlaw them. Now, with metal 3D printing capabilities advancing, 3D printed metal guns are increasingly becoming more viable.
Big Tech Moves to De-Platform 3D Printer Gun Groups…. Again
As 3D printing continues to advance, so does the technology of 3D printed gun makers. Recently, the Defense Distributed group, which had been providing 3D printed gun files, received a cease and desist from multiple big tech companies. Now, the group has been largely de-platformed from the internet, making it much more difficult for 3D printer gun makers to get their information.
Blueprints for 3D-printed guns to become available Aug. 1
On Aug. 1, the federal government will make it legal to provide 3D-printed gun blueprints on the internet. The move comes in response to a court ruling that said publishing gun blueprints is protected speech, and the government has decided to respect that. It is expected that the blueprints will be available on websites, blogs, and even YouTube.
